CAR TIPS
Cooling system
Never tamper with the cooling system when hot, as it is a pressured system. This may cause air bubbles or airlocks, causing long-term engine damage.
The cooling system and water level should only be checked when the car is cold and the cooling system is un-pressurised
Batteries
Most new batteries in this day and age are maintenance-free and sealed units and come with two-year warranties. If ever you find the need to replace your battery always make sure it is the specified battery for the make and model of your vehicle.
Tyres
On most vehicles, tyres are rotatable front to rear. It’s advisable to rotate front to rear and to do balance and alignment every 10 000kms to avoid uneven wear. This is to make sure you get the full life out of your tyres. Make sure to include the Spare tyre in the rotation as well.
Gearbox
Don’t drive with your foot resting on the clutch pedal and don’t rest your hand on the gear lever unless changing gears.
Steering
When turning your steering wheel, don’t hold it in an extreme right or left position for more than a few seconds. Doing so can damage the power-steering pump.
