Is it necessary to service your car’s air conditioning system?
Your car’s air-conditioning system is an important part of your regular vehicle maintenance, so yes, it is necessary and can be advantageous in the summer heat. On average, your car’s cooling system needs to be serviced or re-gassed every one to two years. Generally, a car air conditioning service includes:
- An anti-bacterial clean
- A gas and lubricant recharge
- A check for leaks conducted through a vacuum test
If your refrigerant is low, the air conditioning will blow warmer air. This causes the system to work twice as hard to pump cold air, which can strain the engine and impact fuel consumption.

- A foul smell coming from your AC vents
- Unusual banging, rattling, or odd sounds when your aircon is operating
